Cooperations
From 2013 to 2018, IGS was a partner in three EU-funded Erasmus Mundus mobility projects, which resulted in sustainable cooperation in the form of cooperation agreements. Below you will find the list of all international agreements of the IGS:
13. Since 2023 Memorandum of Understanding with the private University SLT Campus (PVT) Ltd, Sri Lanka
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with LogDynamics was signed by Vice Chancellor Prof. Veranja Karunaratne in December 2023 on the occasion of the training at SLTC by Dr. Ingrid Rügge as part of the Erasmus+ CBHE project SSAPI. The MoU offers the opportunity for joint research and the exchange of students, doctoral candidates and lecturers between the two institutes.
12. Since 2022 Memorandum of Understanding with the Ba Ria – Vung Tau University (BVU), Vietnam
Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Haasis sealed his cooperation with the Ba Ria – Vung Tau University (BVU) by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Bremen Research Cluster for Dynamics in Logistics (LogDynamics). The aim is to expand cooperation and exchange on all academic levels.
11. Since 2020 inter-institutional agreement between program countries with the Université Lumière Lyon 2, France
The Université Lumière Lyon 2 and University of Bremen agreed on a bilateral Erasmus+ exchange. From now on, mobilities of students and staff members of the different faculties of LogDynamics and the according counterparts in Lyon will be possible. The cooperation results from the fruitful networking in the course of the international exchange within the Erasmus Mundus projects cLINK, FUSION and gLINK.
10. Strategic partnership of the University of Bremen with the University of Ngaoundéré, Kamerun.
Joint research with the University of Ngaoundéré started in 2013. It focuses on several topics, logistics is one of them. Cameroon doctoral students regularly complete part or all of their doctoral studies in Bremen. After their return, they contribute to the expansion of the network and mutual cooperation. Emanating from the University of Ngaoundéré, a cooperation network is gradually being established with other universities in Cameroon, Nigeria, and Chad. The University of Ngaoundéré has been encouraging to play the coordinating role .
9. Since 2019 Memorandum of Understanding with the School of Trade & International Economics of the National Economics University, Hanoi, Vietnam
Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Haasis sealed his long-standing cooperation with the School of Trade & International Economics by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on behalf of the International Graduate School for Dynamics in Logistics (IGS). The Vietnamese partner is a member of the Asian-German Knowledge Network for Transport and Logistics e.V. (agkn). The aim is to further expand cooperation and exchange on an academic level.
8. Since 2019 Memorandum of Understanding with Texas Tech University, USA
The Texas Tech University (TTU), Lubbock, USA, and the IGS of the University of Bremen started a cooperation in 2017. The IGS hosted twice a group of doctoral candidates from Ethiopia for an international experience in the TTU PhD SummerCamp. Prof. Stephen Ekwaro-Osire was the initiator and project coordinator from TTU. In January 2019 a MoU was signed that covers collaboration opportunities with the following departments: electrical and computer engineering, physics, computer science, mathematics and statistics, mechanical engineering, and industrial systems, and manufacturing engineering as well as with the College of Education.
7. Since 2018 Memorandum of Understanding with Chiang Mai University, Thailand
The IGS and the College of Arts, Media and Technology (CAMT) of Chiang Mai University (CMU) started their cooperation in 2013 by applying for the funding of the Erasmus Mundus mobility project cLINK. It resulted in a further exchange of students and scientists, supported by the Erasmus Mundus project FUSION. At the end of 2017, a university-wide interest in continuing the cooperation beyond the projects and the departments involved became apparent. Both universities have many things in common, for example the interest in expanding internationalisation as well as the focus on research and the integration of research into teaching. The CMU is particularly interested in the specific curriculum of the IGS regarding soft skill training. In October 2018, therefore, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed that is valid for all faculties of both universities, which was extended in 2024.
6. Since 2018 Memorandum of Understanding with Universidad Arturo Prat, Iquique, Chile
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Bremen Research Cluster for Dynamcis in Logistics (LogDynamics) at the University of Bremen and the Universidad Arturo Prat (UNAP) enables joint research and conferences as well as the exchange of students and researchers in the field of logistics and industrial engineering. The cooperation results from the continuous cooperation that began 2008 with the application of a UNAP lecturer for admission to the International Graduate School for Dynamics in Logistics (IGS).

The University of Évora and University of Bremen agreed on a bilateral Erasmus+ exchange. From now on, mobilities of students and staff members of the different faculties of LogDynamics and the according counterparts in Évora will be possible. The cooperation results from the fruitful networking in the course of the international exchange within the Erasmus Mundus projects FUSION and gLINK.
4. Since 2017 Memorandum of Understanding with the Capital University of Science and Technology (CUST), Islamabad, Pakistan
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will open up the opportunity for collaborative research and conferences as well as exchange of students, researchers and staff between the two institutes in the areas of logistics and industrial engineering. The cooperation results from the Erasmus Mundus projects cLINK and FUSION and from a number of mobilities in both directions. Since 2021, the IGS is partner in the Erasmus+ Capacity Building project SSAPI. CUST coordinates the project with a duration of three years.
3. Since 2016 Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Peradeniya was initiated in Sri Lanka in December 2016 by Prof. Dr. Hans-Dietrich Haasis. It has been extended several times, most recently in December 2023 for a further five years. The cooperation resulted from the Erasmus Mundus gLINK-funded researcher exchange of Dr. Asela Kulatunga and is now being continued by the Erasmus+ CBHE project SSAPI.
2. Since 2016 Memorandum of Understanding with the West Virginia University, United States
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between West Virginia University, USA, and the University of Bremen enables joint research, the joint organization of conferences, and the exchange of students, academic staff and lecturers in the fields of logistics and industrial engineering. The cooperation results from the transfer of an excellent PhD student from the University of Bremen and employee of BIBA - Bremer Institut für Produktion und Logistik GmbH to the USA. Dr.-Ing. Thorsten Wuest is now working as Assistant Professor at West Virginia University and J. Wayne and Kathy Richards Faculty Fellow - Industrical and Management Systems Engineering - at the Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources.
1. Since 2015 Memorandum of Understanding with the Zhongyuan University of Technology, Zhengzhou, China
The written agreement was filled with life through numerous collaborations. An intensive exchange of lecturers and researchers took place, primarily in the direction of Bremen, but also vice versa. Prof. Dr. Hans-Dietrich Haasis, spokesman for the IGS, has been rewarded "Distinguished Professor" and "Foreign Director of the International Joint Research Center for Logistics Management and Engineering" Awards at ZUT in 2018. The certificate was granted to him on March 22, 2018 during a solemn event in China.
