Abstract

Global markets for high-value products are competitive and constantly changing. These markets are generally controlled by the customer, creating the need for the manufacturer to bid for a contract. Suppliers of standardized parts transform to problem solvers for the customer or vanish. Offering such products and possibly associated services requires closer collaboration in temporary Collaborative Networks, formed individually for a business opportunity. It is necessary to involve also the suppliers of components and services or even the customer directly into the bidding process instead of the traditional supply chain arrangement The purpose of this paper is to understand the implications of bidding for complex, customized products in temporary collaborative networks and to analyse the differences to the traditional “single-enterprise” bidding process.
