Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Frank Sill Torres

Institute for the Protection of Maritime Infrastructure

Frank Sill Torres received his bachelor’s degree in 2002 and his Ph.D. in electrical engineering in 2007, both from the University of Rostock. In 2023, he completed his habilitation in computer science at the University of Bremen. In 2010, he was appointed professor of embedded systems at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) in the Faculty of Engineering, where he worked until 2018. In 2019, he moved to the Institute for the Protection of Maritime Infrastructure at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Bremerhaven and took over as head of the Department of Resilience of Maritime Socio-Technical Systems, and in 2021 also assumed the acting directorship of the institute. Since 2026, he has been the director of the institute and holds the Chair of Maritime Systems Resilience at the University of Bremen in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. He also lectures at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences.

From 2014 to 2020, he was an associate researcher at the Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq). Since 2024, he has been a member of the “Electrical Engineering and Information Technology” review board of the German Research Foundation (DFG).
