Prof. Dr. Nicole Megow

Combinatorial Optimization and Logistics

Nicole Megow studied business mathematics at the Technical University of Berlin and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). In 2006, she earned her doctorate in mathematics from the Technical University of Berlin with a thesis on “Coping with Uncertainty in Scheduling: Online and Stochastic Models.” Her research career took her to the Max Planck Institute for Informatics in Saarbrücken, as a visiting professor for discrete optimization at the Technical University of Darmstadt (2011/12), as head of an Emmy Noether Group back at the Technical University of Berlin (2012-2015), and as a W2 professor for discrete mathematics at the Technical University of Munich (2015/16). Since 2016, she has been Professor of Combinatorial Optimization and Logistics at the University of Bremen. Her research on mathematical optimization under uncertainty has received numerous awards, including the Dissertation Prize of the German Operations Research Society (2007) and the Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Prize (2013). Since 2020, she has been an elected member of the DFG Review Board for Computer Science, of which she has been the spokesperson since 2024. She is also involved in the editorial boards of leading journals such as Operations Research and Discrete Optimization. She has been a member of the LogDynamics research network since 2017.
