Prof. Dr. Nils Meyer-Larsen

Prof. Dr. Nils Meyer-Larsen is the scientific director of the Institute of Shipping Economics and Logistics (ISL) and has been working for the ISL for over 24 years. He previously earned his doctorate in physics at the German Electron Synchrotron (DESY) in Hamburg. His areas of expertise include hydrogen technologies and applications in maritime transport and logistics, global supply chain security, terminal process optimization, and satellite- and drone-based services for maritime logistics. He holds a professorship at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences, where he teaches in the Integrated Safety and Security Management (ISSM) program. Prof. Meyer-Larsen has coordinated several EU projects, including CHINOS for optimizing container handling in intermodal terminals and INTEGRITY for improving the visibility and security of global intermodal container transport chains, which was awarded the TRA Visions Senior Researcher Award. As part of Horizon 2020, Prof. Meyer-Larsen was the overall coordinator of the EU project IW-NET on the use of innovative concepts in inland waterway transport.
